Time to reflect and share with colleagues one more time

I learned about Class sites today. Further increasing my understanding of how to build up my class site and adding buttons etc. I have learned so much to increase my confidence, another thing I learned was using spreadsheets working out simple formula's. I will share my completed class site 2020 with my students and of course, keep adding links to the pages.

Spreadsheets, sites, titles, subtitles, and table of contents have increased my confidence. I will use the spreadsheets for assessment data and class lists!!!

Thought for the last day. A big thank-you to Vicki and Makaore for all the help given to us. DFI course has been the best PD I have had, so worthwhile.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? Technology is not just a tool but it's about opening up opportunities for our students and empowering them in their learning.


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? I didn't know that coding could be so educational...always thought Minecraft was just gaming.


What did I learn that could be used with my learners? I would like to share the coding, Minecraft, micro bits (soundbox, flashing light and music) and scratch. But I need to learn more about these before I do.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? Being Cybersmart it's helpful if we let our students know what we want them to do. Empowering student voice through digital citizenship, Being Cybersmart empowers learners to connect when their learning is visible and Ubiquitous. Changing the mindset, to what you want to see and being more positive.


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? Using other devices that our students use. It gives me an idea of how their devices work and what they are capable of doing or not doing on them. I certainly was walking in their shoes.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners? Digital Dig gave us more knowledge about the Chromebook Keyboard Shortcuts.



What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Screencastify I haven't used it in yonks and I was reminded how useful this app is.

DFI- Cohort 3- Dealing with Data - Day 6 28/11/11

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? Vicki talked about how Manaikalani started from 4 or 5 schools and over the years we have clusters from the top of the North Island to the South Island. It has made the learning easier because of the Shared language and visibility from cluster to cluster. Everything is coherent in the shared spaces.


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? A bit more about a spreadsheet, and Google Maps how to insert icons, customizing icons, add Markers and a photo.



What did I learn that could be used with my learners? Blogging, it's not just for the sake of writing or being noted what they have done.  But for me to remember it is for a student to gain an audience to share their learning, so it is visible. Talk to them about the meaning of the word Ubiquitous. It is one of the 4 kaupapa which means learning and teaching can be, anywhere, anytime and anyplace. It is not restrained by time.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? Dorothy talked about Visible teaching and learning - Manaiakalani Kaupapa. This is simply: you can see it -so it can be seen. It removes the barriers to a learner's journey. The learners' journey has been likened to a maze, and we as educators need to be able to make sure there are no surprises for them.
An online portal brings all the students learning into one place for them to access.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? Starting a class site page, and having a better understanding of the process of creating it.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners? Google drawings, inserting an image and changing the border size and colour.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Success is to be able to connect the dots so we feel confident about our teaching and student's learning.

Time to reflect
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? I learned that our planned lessons need to be engaging for our students. 


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? I need to have lessons that hook in the students. So learning these skills from the DFI are going to be so beneficial.


What did I learn that could be used with my learners? I have learned to make a site. These skills I have learned will help me to make own classroom site. This site I'll share with my students.
We also looked at how to label our Posts properly. Labels enable the blogger and reader to locate relevant blog posts quickly and to share or use them.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Technology is a way of harnessing the creativity and sharing. I feel the DFI is helping me become more creative in what I present to my learners.

DFI - Cohort 3 - Media - Day 3- 11/14/19

We have been full-on today.
Create - Hanga was the theme of the day. So looked at how creating is an important part of how a student learns. Making, doing and presenting what they have learned motivates the student.
Create is a process of forming original ideas through exploration and discovery -Kohl 2008. Tasks that are created need to hook in the students. Creative skills help students become better problem solvers, communicators, and collaborators.

Kent Somerville did a hangout with us about live streaming and how it involves the whanau if they are unable to attend the event that a student is in. It gives them the opportunity to share in the student's success as well.
A few things I enjoyed and found valuable were to Create a Playlist. I put some youtube clips for Mandarin into the playlist. We also did a google slide, and how to put in an image by just dragging it onto the slide.

DFI - Cohort 3- Workflow - DAY 2 - 11/11/19

This is Day 2 of our DFI course. Learned a lot of new things.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? I learned that with the Manaiakalani we have moved from the analogue world to the digital world. Teachers are shown the skills and knowledge for accelerated learning to benefit our students.


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? Using the workspace for my student's documents instead of sharing it from my drive. This way I know that every student in my class has received it and the google doc. is in their folder.


What did I learn that could be used with my learners? Hangouts is my new friend to try out with a small group of students. This is another way to learn, create and share their learning.


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Definitely using the calendar and using the reminder alarm so I don't forget things.

DFI - Cohort 3 - Core Business - Day 1 -8/11/19

The day has finally arrived for the DFI course. I have mixed feelings about it because of previous courses I have done which left me reeling and with a massive headache.

So we all arrived and it is a small group of us, which is awesome.

• What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? I enjoyed listening to how Manaiakalani began and how it has grown over the years. The main purpose was to motivate and empower the student's learning. It has helped through the use of Chromebooks to attain the goals they have set. Increasing student achievement and being digitally confident learners.
• What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? More confident with picking up some of the digital jargon used and actioning given instructions.
• What did I learn that could be used with my learners? Blogging and creating a document, embedding pictures and changing the borders. 
• What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Take small steps, one step at a time.

I thought I would take a photo of my class working on their Math. But because I didn't want to disturb their work I had to take 3 pictures to try and capture them all in it. It didn't work because they were so spread out.
